Where do games disclose AI use?
Search developers’ Steam disclosures, compare classified AI use across
games, and follow recorded changes.
This index adds cross-game classifications and statistics to
statements published on individual store pages.
Groups reflect automatic analysis of public disclosures; mature records are excluded. These counts do not measure AI use across all of Steam.
Missing or unclear statements cannot establish whether a game uses AI.
Development uses AI tools as coding assistants to optimize scripts and refactor systems. Some UI icons and graphic elements may have been generated or iterated with AI assistance, but all were manually reviewed and edited to ensure final quality.
Character prototypes and costumes (for the protagonist Luo Hongxue) are manually designed. AI is used to generate scenes (such as background images for Shuiyue Tower and the Cave Mansion), NPC appearances (like the looks of a poor scholar or a fox spirit), and motion modifications (such as adjustments to character spellcasting and walking animations).
AI generative models were used to create localization files to support languages that would otherwise be difficult for a solo developer. Placeholder AI-generated assets have been created for the Steam store splash images, with the intent of commissioning an artist if this gains community support. All in-game assets (sprites, music, sound effects, UI elements, and interactive content) were created by humans and are credited in the game credits. CPU opponents use traditional game AI algorithms, not generative AI models.
This is the third iteration of development, that was originally developed in 2019 with HTML + JS, then rebuilt in Unity, and then transferred to LOVE2D written in Lua. It was more-or-less built with a box of scraps in a cave in its first iterations, and modern software since those days have effectively blurred the line where task automation meets unethical AI consumption.
It's up to each of us to determine where that line is for ourselves in a rapidly changing digital age. As both a solo game dev and multimedia artist carrying a full-time job in neither of those fields, I feel that it's important to be educating ourselves on where AI can be a useful tool to allow new opportunities and expand capabilities for independent creators that are otherwise untenable, while keeping the human side of game dev at its core, especially in the indie genre.
Only used strictly as a foundational tool to assist in creating base concepts for certain 2D sprites and background textures. Every AI-assisted asset was heavily modified, color-corrected, and manually integrated to fit the retro aesthetic.
Generative AI was used during the development process to assist in creating 2D visual assets, including the character art (the cyber cat) and promotional imagery. These assets were pre-generated and are included as static files within the application.
This game includes AI-generated content. Voice lines were created using ElevenLabs AI voice synthesis technology. Some sound effects were generated using AI tools. The intro sequence features AI-generated images that were heavily edited and manipulated in Adobe Photoshop as part of the artistic process.
Our team uses generative AI tools to help develop some in-game assets. All AI outputs were reviewed and curated by our team to meet our quality standards. No AI outputs are used to replace core gameplay design decisions or narrative direction.
AI was used to assist with writing/editing text (I’m a non-native English speaker), as well as for calculations and development troubleshooting. No AI-generated art, audio, or in-game writing is included in the game, and the game does not generate AI content during gameplay.
This game uses generative artificial intelligence tools in the creation of visual assets, including character art and background illustrations. All AI-generated content has been reviewed, curated, and integrated into the game by the developer to ensure consistency with the artistic direction and narrative tone.
After I personally finalized the design phase, some art assets were first rendered using generative AI tools, and I then manually refined and detailed them.
Similarly, certain background music pieces were developed with the help of generative AI tools.
Should you have any concerns about these methods, please feel free to experience the game according to your own preferences. Thank you for your understanding and consideration.
This game is an AI-powered desktop companion that uses Large Language Models (LLM) to generate real-time dialogue and voice interactions. The AI assistant can engage in natural conversations, answer questions, perform tasks, and provide voice feedback through Text-to-Speech (TTS) technology. All AI-generated content is produced in real-time via external API services, with content filtering and safety measures implemented to ensure compliance with community standards.
Image generation for fictional players (“NEWgens”) – creating visual portraits for entirely fictional characters.
Localization support – assisting in the translation and adaptation of in-game text into different languages.
This title uses generative AI tools to assist in the creation of some written content and visual assets. All AI-assisted content is curated, edited, and finalized by the developer, and no AI-generated content is created dynamically during gameplay.
All visual assets in the game, including character portraits, backgrounds, user interface (UI) elements, icons, and menus, were created using generative Artificial Intelligence tools. Additionally, all the background music and musical tracks were also composed and generated using AI. All of these assets are pre-rendered during development ; there is no live AI generation occurring in real-time while the user is playing.
The development of Zero to Hero was assisted by Generative AI tools (Large Language Models). As a solo developer and non-programmer, I utilized AI to help write the game's source code, debug errors, extensive refactoring, and assist in designing mathematical progression systems. All AI-generated code and content were manually reviewed, tested, and refined to ensure a cohesive and fun gameplay experience. The game's core design, vision, and final polish are human-curated.
A limited number of background images and sprites were created with generative AI. Most assets and all gameplay were created manually, the other rest is self-created or from the Unity Asset Store.
Some artworks and voiceovers were created with AI assistance and enchanced per me. As a solo developer, this helps me save time so I can focus more on fun gameplay quality, balance, and polishing.
- Character profile images were generated using AI tools, then reviewed and edited by the developer to fit the game's art direction.
- AI-assisted tools were used in parts of the development process.
- No AI content is generated during gameplay. All in-game experiences are designed and curated by the developer.
This demo includes a limited number of pre-generated AI-assisted art assets used as placeholders (e.g., some concept/illustration elements and textures). These assets are not generated in real time and do not affect gameplay. We plan to replace AI-assisted placeholder assets with original final assets for the full release.
Generative AI was used to create the store page capsule images and marketing banners. All in-game vector graphics and code were created manually by the developer.
Some visual assets and character concepts in this game were created with the assistance of AI-based tools and were further refined and integrated by the developer.
No real-time AI-generated content is used during gameplay.
COALCOM was built by a solo developer with 20+ years in the power industry. Generative AI was used to write and iterate on game code — it's what made finishing a +10-year project idea finally possible. Some written content, including store page copy and the game manual, was drafted with AI assistance and refined by the developer. The game design, mechanics, domain expertise, and voice are entirely human. The visual assets were not AI-generated.
To ensure the best quality for Velocide Overdrive, generative AI was used as a supportive tool in the development process:
- Visual Assets: A very small number of icons and static images were initially generated using AI, then manually retouched and integrated. The vast majority of the game's visuals are procedurally generated via code or created manually.
- Audio: The soundtrack and effects are a blend of human creation and AI-assisted composition. Some AI-generated audio elements have been manually modified, mixed, and finalized by the developer to ensure they perfectly match the gameplay experience.
- Code & Testing: AI tools were utilized to assist with coding logic, debugging, and optimization to ensure game stability.
All AI-assisted content in this game is pre-rendered and has been reviewed by the developer.
AI was used exclusively to create temporary placeholder images for character skill and perk descriptions. This decision was made due to budget constraints during the early stages of development. As the project progresses and resources become available, all AI-generated assets will be replaced with high-quality, hand-crafted artwork created by professional artists.
This game uses pre-rendered generative AI to create its character artwork, environment assets and marketing material. All AI-generated art has been reviewed and edited to ensure it meets our quality standards and does not include illegal or infringing material.
Artificial Intelligence was only used to create the store page icons and the in game welcome screen. All gameplay code, mechanics, artwork, and sound was naturally created.
Most of the in-game 2D assets, including character sprites, UI elements, and backgrounds, were created using generative AI tools during the development process. We have manually reviewed all assets to ensure they do not contain illegal content.
This game does not contain any AI-generated visual or audio assets.
AI tools were used solely as development assistance for:
• Translation assistance
• Text proofreading and wording suggestions
• Code review, debugging, and programming assistance
• Brainstorming and general development support
All game content, assets, and code were created, reviewed, and curated by the developer. Any AI-assisted output was subject to human review and modification before inclusion in the game.
Generative AI was used for a few non-gameplay elements: marketing materials excluding screenshots, the game logo and its in-game implementation, a noise map for shaders, and some post processing textures specifically to aid in the creation of the CRTV effect. All other visible assets, music, and sounds were made by hand.
