Public Steam disclosure research25,380 disclosures tracked
Where do games disclose AI use?
Search developers’ Steam disclosures, compare classified AI use across
games, and follow recorded changes.
This index adds cross-game classifications and statistics to
statements published on individual store pages.
Groups reflect automatic analysis of public disclosures; mature records are excluded. These counts do not measure AI use across all of Steam.
Missing or unclear statements cannot establish whether a game uses AI.
We use AI to generate the music you hear in the trailer(s), and have used it to refine our descriptions of the game as you see on Steam. Occasionally we may use AI to assist us in coding the game, or completely write parts of code for our game. However, during gameplay there are no parts of AI used, what you see in the game when it comes to art, 3D-models, effects, etc., is made manually without AI, with the exception being parts of the code.
AI tools were used to generate content for both the game and its store presence. Specifically, AI was used to create marketing materials and capsule images for the store page. In-game, AI was utilized to create visual assets for units and buildings, as well as video elements for the studio intro and the main menu.
No AI art, no AI music, no AI sounds, no AI dialouges/descriptions/names, no vibe coding was used during development of game. Only: very small misc UI elements, some smaller closed coding elements like some shaders and AI machine translation for every steam supported language excluding English, Polish and Chinese (Traditional and Simplified).
Almost all of the game is hand-made art and code, but A.I. has been used to create concepts and is used in the workflow to quickly get ideas for logos or assets.
The voice overs are currently all a.i. generated but will be replaced at an later point.
This game uses AI-assisted tools to generate and refine certain 2D visual assets. These include general artwork such as loading screens, character portraits, item icons, and background illustrations. All AI-generated elements are reviewed, edited, and integrated by our art team to ensure consistency with the game’s visual style and artistic direction.
Some building art assets were created using AI-assisted 3D model generation, then manually refined, rendered, and composited as final 2D sprites. No live AI content generation occurs during gameplay.
AI is used only during the early concept and ideation stages of some art. All final in-game assets are created and implemented by the development team.
AI-assisted tools were used during the development of this game, including assistance with writing game code, some audio assets, and certain promotional materials for this store page. All AI-assisted content was directed, reviewed, and integrated by the developer, and the game's design and creative direction are the developer's own. The game does not use AI at runtime: no gameplay content, player-facing text, or other material is generated by AI while playing.
The program includes a local (offline, downloaded with the build) AI model trained by us to generate text content for adventures, NPCs, mobs, and items based on player prompts. In addition, the program includes pre-generated 3D models of props and NPCs edited by artists.
About the Use of AI
During the early stages of development, Project Substrata utilized generative AI tools (such as image generation) for concept art and idea exploration only.
All in-game assets, textures, audio, story elements, and code are manually created and refined by the development team.
Within the game world, autonomous drones and facility AIs operate as part of the gameplay and narrative systems, not as real AI services.
The game runs entirely offline, with no external data transmission or use of online AI APIs.
AI tools were used during development to assist with game code and visual design. The AI helped with coding support, debugging suggestions, and creating certain visual assets such as icons and background elements. No AI-generated content is produced in real time during gameplay — all AI-assisted work was done before release to improve development efficiency and visual quality.
Generative AI was used for images generation used in-game. Part of generated images was then corrected by a paid human worker. Another generated part is relatively low quality and is aimed to be replaced by proper art before the full release.
Images for the Steam page are including AI-generated graphical content from the game.
Generative AI was also partially used for programming help, with every generated line being reviewed by the actual developer.
"OpenAI ChatGPT" and "pixellab.ai" were used during development.
During the development of this game, generative AI was used solely to assist in the creation of certain 3D models. All core gameplay design, and narrative content were created independently by our development team.
Marketing materials, pre-rendered in-game visual effects, textures and materials for characters, props, and environments and translations are partly or completly AI-generated.
The game and its Steam store page include some AI-generated images and translated text content (all non-Chinese text was generated using AI translation).
Explore the Universe 2175 uses AI in two distinct ways, and we want to be clear about both.
Real-time simulation (the core of the game). The galaxy is driven by a custom AI system we built ourselves. Faction behavior, MEGABOT's roaming strategy, enemy tactics, and the way wars unfold across sectors are all computed live in our own engine — not generated text or assets. This is procedural and rule-based simulation: the "intelligence" you fight against is real-time decision-making, the same category as the AI in any strategy game, just deeper.
Dialogue is human-written, scripted in advance.
Music and sound are human-created.
Some in-game entity visuals and animations are AI-generated (created during development, not dynamically while you play).
Some marketing and store-page images are AI-generated. Gameplay screenshots are authentic.
No AI-generated content is used to deceive players or misrepresent the game.
In development, we used AI as a support tool for generating ideas and quick concept art in the early stages. The final game is based on ready-made assets and manual tweaking, so AI was used solely as an assistant in the creative process.
To focus more on the gameplay itself, some of the icons, sprites and logos have had AI-assisted rendering for the purpose of improving the final artistic presentation to the end user. Text to Speech tools have assisted in the generation of voice audio used within the menus and the main levels of the game.
I'm mostly doing this by myself and I have used AI to generate specific images related to The 5th Realm as described by myself and my game design documents. I have also given samples of documents generated by myself (like my game design document) to AI to enhance needed descriptions. These are for the initial "coming soon" store page. Except for when (and if) I get funding to complete The 5th Realm, there will be little to no AI used in generating content for the game. At this point all other documents and content are completely original. If needed, it is highly possible that in the future during further development I may ask AI for help in generating or correcting certain specific code or blueprints that I cannot do for myself. Ideally, I will pay a coder for this. In short, The 5th Realm is an all original idea and genre from my own mind that I have been working on since before the advent of AI.
