During the development of this game, generative AI tools were utilized to create initial concepts and base drafts for some of the visual assets. Most things were first sketched by human imagination, then professionalized by AI to give players the most flawless visual. All of these AI-generated drafts were then heavily edited, redrawn, and finalized by the developer in the pixel art program Aseprite to fully match their unique artistic vision. All final in-game assets reflect the developer's own pixel art style and effort. AI music is also included. The game does not use generative AI to create any content in real-time during gameplay.
Some in-game assets were created using AI tools, including certain audio effects, character voices, a small number of meshes, and portions of in-game text. All AI-generated content was reviewed, edited, and integrated to fit the game’s design and narrative.
Story,Localization; I'm using AI as a tool to assist me, but the main story, characters, and major plot points are all created by me. This way, there's no unnecessarily long or ridiculous AI-generated story; I'm just using it to make things clearer.
Some assets were developed working with large language models.
During the development of this game, some visual assets for the store page and in-game loading screens were created with the assistance of generative AI tools. All such content was created and reviewed by the development team to ensure it aligns with the game's artistic vision and quality standards. No AI-generated content is created live during gameplay.
AI has been used occasionally to assist with coding and, more rarely, for refining visual elements. However, the vast majority of the game has been developed without the use of AI.

Most StoryBay images are AI generated. Most of the Radio musical song tracks are AI generated. Most of the spoken dialog is AI generated.
Some shop-themed images are AI-generated, and some in-game monster and character models are also created using AI.
I’ve used tools like Image Creator, Meshy, and assets from the Unreal Fab Shop some of which include AI-assisted content. These resources complement my own custom-made models and help fill creative gaps when needed. Final in-game assets will be a mix of original and properly licensed content. Most AI-generated content in my project is based on models I’ve created myself. I was born speaking French and English isn’t my native language, so I’ve used AI tools to help refine and improve my writing. From game dialogue to story descriptions and Kickstarter text, AI helps me correct grammar and make my ideas easier to read and understand for a broader audience. The creative direction and story are completely mine it just helps me express it better!
Some elements can be generated using AI.
Land of the Valiants uses AI exclusively for the creation of concept art and visual assets.
How We Used AI in When The Sun Dies When developing When The Sun Dies, we leveraged artificial intelligence to enrich your experience and create a truly immersive world. AI is integrated into many different aspects of the game, playing significant roles both visibly and behind the scenes. Areas Where AI Was Used: Visual and Audio Design: We utilized AI-powered tools in the creation of some of the game's textures, 3D models, and sounds. This allowed our artists and sound designers to bring their visions to life more quickly and efficiently, enhancing the unique and unsettling atmosphere of the world. Code Optimization and Development: AI-assisted processes were used in the development and optimization of certain parts of the game's core code. This helped us deliver a more stable, efficient, and seamless gameplay experience. Story and World Building: AI-based suggestion systems contributed to detailing certain elements of our post-apocalyptic world's rich story and lore, as well as refining characters and events. This increased the depth of the world and the layers of narrative waiting to be discovered. Our goal was to use AI as a tool to make When The Sun Dies the best and most unforgettable survival experience possible. We hope you enjoy these innovative approaches!
As a one-person indie dev on a small island, with a clear idea, some programming skillz, minimal artistic talent, and practically zero funding, using AI has helped me actually to finish developing Lightyears of Fervent Warfare. I started developing LoFW during COVID-19, when I began learning game development as a hobby during Seychelles' lockdown. I had coded my MSc project in C# and was able to code everything by hand. I was even able to design the pixel graphics on my own. Then COVID-19 ended, life continued, and LoFW was left in the dust. This year, I experimented with the Cursor and Midjourney AIs and discovered that I could leverage them to continue developing my game part-time. Using Cursor to modify my existing code and generate new code via vibe coding helped me implement features quickly. This gave me the time to focus on the actual game design, the feature set, and testing. And while I still work on most of the pixel graphics by hand, using Midjourney to generate more complex graphics has helped me save time and resources that I don't yet have. Sure, using AI still takes time; I can be pedantic and tend to modify and optimise everything manually. Chastising AIs, reviewing code, and doing manual edits to the graphics are now part of my workflow. AI shenanigans notwithstanding, I do hope that you'll support my game!
Using AI to generate partial UI and visual assets for games
a few lines of the dialog were generated using AI and is currently used only as a placeholder. the concept of some icons was generated using AI, but they were largely edited.
We utilized AI technology in areas such as UI design and story text. However, we also performed secondary manual processing on these elements; we did not directly use AI-generated assets and text. Furthermore, apart from the aforementioned content, all other parts of the game were created manually and did not use AI.
We use generative AI tools in a very limited way to create minor in-game image assets and a small amount of marketing materials, always with human oversight and input. All core game content is carefully designed, authored, and curated by our development team to ensure quality and originality.
Some visual assets in this game were initially generated using AI tools and then manually edited and refined by artists. No AI systems influence gameplay or player data.
Some art, music, and code structures in this game were assisted by AI tools during development. All outputs have been reviewed, refined, and integrated by human developers to ensure consistent style and high-quality gameplay experience.
This title uses generative AI only for pre-generated content. During development, a small set of UI visuals (buttons/icons) and promotional artwork (such as logos and store images) were created with image-generation tools and then manually edited. No AI runs at gameplay time: there is no real-time AI for text, voice, art, levels, NPCs, or moderation. All outputs were reviewed to avoid copyright or trademark infringement and to avoid replicating the style of identifiable living artists.
AI was used in the creation of 2D artwork, as well as music and sound effects in the game.
The game's intro video and skill icons were produced with the help of generative AI.
Some of the voices, music and 3d models and their textures were created with the assistance of AI. Much of the legacy script was revised and improved on using Claude. The Slots level features a jukebox that contains a list of AI tracks made by myself using Suno.
Como estudantes, acabamos usando a IA como meio de consulta, resolução de problemas e o campo artístico como logotipo do jogo.
The audio of the character dialogues is generated with AI(TTS). This only happens once(if at all) when creating a new game version.
AI was used for interface language translation.
Some of the image materials were created using AI and were subsequently refined with detailed edits
Some static content, such as images, is AI-generated.
AI makes a lot of things easier for drawing, 3D, animation, code, music... but I don't use AI to avoid having to work, nor in place of my imagination: I create the lore, the character designs, the enemies and bosses, the powers and their combined effects, I write the dialogues myself and even the song lyrics. In short, I don't use AI to create, but to produce with the means I have (I document all of this in the YouTube devlog.) And the more Tyberion takes shape, the more I replace AI assets with handmade assets.
Some non-player character voices are generated using AI voice synthesis. This allows for faster iteration and more immersive atmosphere during development. No gameplay, narrative choices, or in-game content are generated by AI.
AI was used for voice and sound effects.
Art and Graphics for Arena II were generated using AI models.
Trailers and marketing material have IA generated images.
AI has been used for the cover art and videos.
Created game icons using AI.
In game skill icons. Steam capsules background base images.
We only used AI to generate videos of the ship and some outdoor shots, without involving portraits.
