Public Steam disclosure research 25,497 disclosures tracked
Search developers’ Steam disclosures, compare classified AI use across games, and follow recorded changes. This index adds cross-game classifications and statistics to statements published on individual store pages.
Code help, debugging and other development work.
Capsule art, trailers and promotional material.
Pre-made art, audio, writing and other game assets.
Interactive or runtime AI features disclosed by the developer.
Groups reflect automatic analysis of public disclosures; mature records are excluded. These counts do not measure AI use across all of Steam. Missing or unclear statements cannot establish whether a game uses AI.
AI used for: cover art elements.
AI was used to create the images, but the character sprites were redrawn by artist, and the backgrounds were edited in a graphics editor. To create the music, AI was used as a reference, and then the composer created his tracks based on it.
Some of the game's icons and UI are created by AI, and the English translations are first translated by AI then manually reviewed
Visual
AI was used for localization only (UI and dialogue). The following languages were translated using AI: German, French, Spanish, Chinese (Simplified), Japanese, and Russian. All original English text is human-written, and the Greek translation was also done by a human.
The main menu song was created with the help of artificial intelligence.
Game Logo is created by AI.
Some of the fictional imagery.
I automatically translated the game using AI for support in a total of 26 languages: Bulgarian, Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, etc.. Game & the store page in all languages except Korean and English were translated using AI. Translation errors may exist, so please always let me know on the discord server and help me fix them!
Sound effects, 3D assets, store art, code
AI was used to assist in creating film visuals and capsule images for the game’s store page. All AI-assisted assets were reviewed and refined to match the game’s style.
The puzzle images pre-rendered AI art
All in-game art was created by real human artists. The AI tool Cursor (a programming IDE) was used to help with developing the code for the game itself. The initial background of the icon used for the game was generated using AI tools.
We use AI in early conceptual design, to figure out an appropriate background art. We then go through several iterations manually with artist modifications, to produce a good, highly polished background that gels well with our characters, story and intended art style. Our characters are hand drawn by humans. Our objects are hand drawn by humans. All user interface (UI) elements are hand drawn by humans. All animations are hand drawn and meticulously rigged (also by humans) using bone animation.
Some assets were created using AI.
The logo and certain textures in the game was AI generated. AI is used during game development.
Certain visual and audio assets were created with the assistance of digital tools that help streamline the creative process. All content has been reviewed and customized to fit the game’s unique style and tone.
Some promotional art elements were created/assisted with AI.
AI was used to localize the current store page descriptions from English into other languages, but no in-game content is generated by AI.
We sometimes use procedural and AI tools to help bring our ideas to life, but every final asset is crafted and guided by the imagination of our team.
AI was used mainly for translations and text redaction and rarely to create some minor assets
Artificial intelligence is used exclusively to support the game’s creative process, specifically in the generation of certain illustrations, musical pieces, or sound effects. All AI-generated content has been manually reviewed, edited, and adapted to ensure artistic coherence and quality within the visual and audio style of Merio Gear.
Some of the game's icons were generated using AI image generation software. All icons were reviewed and adapted by the development team to fit the game's style
AI is used in some audio and visual components.
Explanation about the game development process: In the early concept design and creative ideation stage of this game, we did use AI technology as an auxiliary tool to help us explore and validate various artistic styles and creative directions more quickly. These AI-generated reference materials provided us with initial inspiration. However, the core creative concepts, story writing, character design, and all artistic assets presented in the final game were personally conceived and carefully crafted by our creative team. Each game element underwent repeated human optimization and fine-tuning to ensure the best gaming experience. AI was only used as an auxiliary tool, and the final game content presented is the result of human creation. We have always adhered to human creation as the main driver, committed to bringing players a unique and meticulously polished gaming experience.
Some of the hint illustrations are AI-generated.
Generative AI was used to create 2D artworks of in-game characters.
Some of the game's artwork, such as supporting illustrations and auxiliary images, was initially created with the help of AI tools for visual prototyping. All content used in the final product has been reviewed, edited, and curated by humans to ensure consistent style and alignment with the game's universe. The game does not use AI for gameplay decisions, character behavior, progression, dialogues, or any functional part of the experience. All narrative, mechanics, programming, and design were developed manually.
Store description and promotional graphics generated using AI tools.
Game menu image, game logo and game library assets made with ai software
AI is used to generate the following: - Game description - Store page's Capsule and Library imagery - Splash screen - Some character models from our concept - Item and level icons in main menu
Generative AI tools were used only in the narration / voice acting workflow, with consent from the voice artist. All visual assets, gameplay content, and core creative work are created by our team and external artists."
AI tools were used only for marketing materials (trailer). No AI-generated content appears in the game itself.
Used for generating non-essential 2D image assets.
Game art and marketing
Game art and marketing
We used AI tools during the development process solely to assist in writing standard game scripts (coding assistance) and to generate musical notation for some background tracks. The game does not use any AI generation in real-time; all assets are pre-made.
To keep this project viable without selling a kidney, generative AI was used to assist with Tablo Escobar's motivational dialogues and localization. However, I didn’t make AI slop... I manually reviewed and edited every line to make sure the robots didn't accidentally declare war on the player.
AI Usage in Content Generation : Portraits and Illustrations: Initial portrait concepts are generated using AI tools. These generated images are then extensively modified, redrawn, and finished manually in Krita and Photoshop using a graphics tablet to ensure compliance with the game's artistic direction. Characters (3D Models): AI generative tools are used solely to create the base mesh for character models. These bases are subsequently refined, resculpted, remeshed, unwrapped, retextured, and animated using traditional softwares. Audio: All voiceovers and musical tracks are fully generated by Artificial Intelligence tools.
Some of the artistic resources in the game are created by modifying my copyrighted images with AI, and I further revised the AI-generated results. I can guarantee that this process does not infringe on any other person's copyright.
"The game's visual and audio assets (art, sound, music, and primary narrative) do not contain generative AI content. The development process utilized standard algorithmic tools for code generation and debugging assistance. Gameplay relies on basic procedural and deterministic logic (e.g., enemy spawning, score calculation)."
Various AI code edits for simple functions and easier testing. Some music and sound effects. No art.
This project may contain minimum AI generated content such as 2D sprite & voice lines, etc. We try to hand make everything as much as possible but we are a small team and occasionally we do use AI generated content.
Some marketing images (e.g. Steam header and capsule art) were partially AI-assisted and later manually edited.
Generative AI was used to create 2D artworks of in-game characters.
Texts were generated and/or translated using AI. The angry emoji is AI generated. All other graphics and content is created by hand.
AI tools were used to create assets for the game.
Some icons, background images, and sound effects are generated by AI
Some sound effects and supplementary music tracks were created using generative AI tools. No AI-generated visuals or gameplay elements are used in the game itself.
Generative AI was used only to create a few illustrations shown as short comic-style scenes at the beginning and end of the game, as well as some promotional artwork (capsules and banners). These images do not affect gameplay or appear as part of the interactive experience. All game mechanics, characters, and environments were created manually. All AI-generated illustrations were created specifically for this project, and I have full rights to use and distribute them.
