Public Steam disclosure research 25,383 disclosures tracked
Search developers’ Steam disclosures, compare classified AI use across games, and follow recorded changes. This index adds cross-game classifications and statistics to statements published on individual store pages.
Code help, debugging and other development work.
Capsule art, trailers and promotional material.
Pre-made art, audio, writing and other game assets.
Interactive or runtime AI features disclosed by the developer.
Groups reflect automatic analysis of public disclosures; mature records are excluded. These counts do not measure AI use across all of Steam. Missing or unclear statements cannot establish whether a game uses AI.
The close-up pictures of the characters were completed with the assistance of AI.
AI content is used for prototyping. This will be replaced by human produced work for the final game.
In our game, AI is used to create and enhance in-game character designs
This game uses AI language models to help refine certain quests with a tone that matches the game's narrative universe and to provide accurate translations for languages we don't speak natively. All AI-assisted content is reviewed and approved by the development team before being included in the game.
The icons for abilities, items, scapers and some other uses of icons are AI generated.
This is a one-man project, featuring imagery generated with the help of AI and then manually refined.
Only localizations other than English or German (in-game and store page) were created with AI, nothing else. Any feedback or corrections to these localizations are very much welcome.
AI is used for marketing materials such as promo images and text descriptions.
As we are indie developers, we use some generative ai tools image generator or ai chatbots, to get birds eye view of how the game will look like, and to create a better plan for our game, then we created the content ourselves.
AI is used for all game translation and store page translation. The game is first written in our native language, then translated to all supported languages. If you find any mistranslation, contact us. Also, specific for the store page only: the female voice from the trailer (explaining the Anunnaki) was created using AI. Besides that, the team uses AI like any other human being: for helping with brainstorm, internal concept art, reference images (not used directly in the final product), summarizing documentation, and sometimes it helps us catch some bugs.
We use it for concept arts(not in game), and in game posters
Our game utilizes AI-generated assets specifically for the game's store page to enhance the quality and visual appeal of promotional materials. These assets include: 1. AI-Generated Artwork: Certain visual elements, such as promotional banners, thumbnails, or concept art displayed on the store page, were created using AI tools. These tools were used to generate high-quality, detailed, and engaging visuals to better represent the game's theme and aesthetic. 2. AI-Assisted Text: Some descriptions, taglines, or other written content on the store page were refined or generated with the help of AI language models to ensure clarity, creativity, and professionalism. Transparency and Ethical Use: The use of AI-generated assets is limited to non-interactive, promotional materials and does not impact the in-game content or player experience. All AI-generated assets were reviewed and curated by our development team to ensure they accurately reflect the game's design and do not mislead players. This survey response outlines our commitment to transparency regarding the use of AI in creating store page assets and ensuring compliance with Steamworks and Valve guidelines.

As a solo indie developer, my resources are very limited, and English is not my native language. Therefore, I used AI as assistance to translate the game content and the Steam page (both created by me) into other languages.
I use AI translation for some parts of the multilingual localization process.
Some images in game and on store page have been AI generated
I use AI-generated images for the artwork on the store page and in-game. I am not an artist, unfortunately, and the cost of paying an artist for these things is very high.

We use artificial intelligence to generate some images in the game, focusing on environmental elements that enhance the atmosphere and immersive feel. Other visual assets were created through traditional methods to preserve artistic consistency. Our goal is to maintain a balance between AI-generated content and hand-crafted assets, ensuring that each part of the visual experience aligns cohesively with the game’s dark, mysterious atmosphere and narrative themes. No AI is used for real-time gameplay elements, and all character interactions and core gameplay were developed manually.
Some 3D models of objects, sounds, music, translation and voice-over of text
Artificial intelligence has been used to help compose text descriptions for the store page.
Currently the main menu screen (and main logo) uses images generated by AI. These are placeholders and will be replaced by real art soon.
AI voice synthesis or voice-changing technology was used to create the in-game voice-over.
A short voice change was made with ai to make realistic content.
I have ChatGPT and Copilot to assist me in creating the code. Some textural assistance was provided by ChatGPT, Copilot and Gemini. We have Udio composing some of the music. Also, I used BiaB, ACS, CREEVO, and Orpheus, which are not AI but auto-generators, for some songs.
Character portrait generated by AI+self modified
Graphics content for Human Avatars was generated using Midjourney and rights to distribute remain with the owner, which is include in the in game credits.
