Public Steam disclosure research 25,380 disclosures tracked
Search developers’ Steam disclosures, compare classified AI use across games, and follow recorded changes. This index adds cross-game classifications and statistics to statements published on individual store pages.
Code help, debugging and other development work.
Capsule art, trailers and promotional material.
Pre-made art, audio, writing and other game assets.
Interactive or runtime AI features disclosed by the developer.
Groups reflect automatic analysis of public disclosures; mature records are excluded. These counts do not measure AI use across all of Steam. Missing or unclear statements cannot establish whether a game uses AI.
The voiceovers for the dialogue were produced with pre-rendered text-to-speech AI.
The backgrounds were generated using neural networks such as NijiJourney, LeonardoAI, and PlaygroundAI with some minor post-processing. The characters and storyline art were drawn by artists.
AI tools have been like an extra set of hands (or brains) for our small indie dev team. They've played a quiet yet invaluable role in helping us draft initial concept art and brainstorm our way through tricky design challenges. Being Polish native speakers, AI has also been particularly helpful in fine-tuning our writing, ensuring our game's narrative is as engaging as possible.
We used AI to create the voices for John, Ellie, Matt, and Becca. This is a temporary solution; we intend to replace these audio tracks with professional voice acting as soon as possible.
Pre-generated AI images
This is an experimental short prototype demo, so a few images are generated by AI. The AI-generated images include only: 1. Unimportant villager portraits. 2. The dream concept illustration at the beginning.
Characters and monster drawings, scenes, UI and other pictures need to be rendered with AI to enrich the picture details
Wacky West had some AI art placeholders that were since replaced with hand made assets.
Some art assets were AI-generated.
A minimum amount of AI-coded content to design levels and additional materials for the game.
The two pieces of music and three mini visuals used in the game were created using artificial intelligence. All other visuals were hand-drawn, and all music was composed by musicians.
Generative AI (DALL·E 3) was used in Steam community resources. Specifically in achievements art.
Character voices are produced by VOIVEVOX software and licensed by the voice owners. Songs are sung by AI virtual singers of ACE software, and have obtained relevant commercial licenses. The English text of this game is translated by AI Translator, and the translated text is from the game script.
The game uses generative AI to generate store page images for the game, as well as Steam community assets and marketing materials and parts of the game UI
AI was used to help with code, writing, and visuals since the project was made on an extremely small budget.
d-id was used to generate the game's cutcine videos.
"My game leverages Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to dynamically create and enhance several aspects of the visual experience. Specifically, I use AI for: Application Icon: The game's icon is generated with AI, offering a unique and engaging visual that reflects the game's theme and atmosphere. Mouse Cursor Replacement: I've designed AI-generated mouse cursors that adapt to different game environments and contexts, providing a seamless and immersive interaction experience. GUI Sprites: Certain elements of the game's graphical user interface (GUI) are created using AI, allowing for a diverse and dynamic presentation that evolves based on gameplay and player choices. I am committed to ensuring that all AI-generated content adheres to Steam's standard store requirements. To this end, I have implemented robust guardrails to prevent the generation of inappropriate or illegal content within my game. I have conducted thorough testing to ensure that the AI behaves as intended, and I continuously monitor and update my AI systems to maintain the highest standards of content integrity and respect for copyright. Furthermore, I encourage our community to report any instances of inappropriate or unexpected AI-generated content through the Steam Overlay's reporting tools. I am dedicated to addressing any such issues promptly to ensure a positive and respectful gaming environment for all players. My use of AI is aimed at enhancing the visual appeal and interactivity of my game, making each player's experience unique and engaging. I believe that this innovative approach to game design will offer players a fresh and dynamic gaming experience."
Image generation is used for in-game elements such as posters
The card images in the game are obtained through AI drawing
Some of the store artwork (Steam capsules) are designed with assistance of generative AI. The game itself - includding the music, levels, code and all artwork - is "hand made" without any of this AI stuff.
Some translations are AI-generated.
As an independent developer, I use AI during development as a learning and workflow assistant. It helps me understand tools, write a small portion of code, and polish some localization. All final content in the game is personally reviewed and tested.
The graphics in the game (backgrounds and sprites) - are the result of strong processing of 3d models.
Generative AI was used to create music and sound effects for the game.
Generative AI is used for translations into languages I do not master and to create early 3D model prototypes. These prototypes are manually refined before being integrated into the game. No generative AI is used during gameplay or to dynamically generate in-game content.
During development, our team MAY use assistive AI design tools to support the creation of certain static visual graphic elements, such as logos, graphics, and UI. Any such materials are further refined and shaped by our artists to ensure they align with the creative direction and standards of Method of Entry. These tools allow us to maintain a high level of visual quality for the best experience possible from our small development team.
Used AI to create images such as loading screen and steam art.
Some images in the game were partly designed by artificial intelligence image generation. They were adapted in a unique way to fit in the general theme.
There was AI image generation used for creating bases for some environment textures, those bases were heavily modified by hand to fit the game from the original texture spit out by AI.
Note: One UI sprite icon and one wall art in the game was created using AI.
Generative AI was used in the production of photorealistic game object images and some sound effects.
Some image elements were generated using AI and refined using photobash and overpainting. English voiceovers.
The card illustrations and marketing materials include AI-generated content. There is nothing that is being generated live in real-time by AI.
We use Windows Co-Pilot to answer questions regarding development tools (eg. how to approach technical problems) and Co-Pilot for Visual Studio Code to help improve coding efficiency (eg. code auto-completion).
Some object textures are AI generated to apparently look AI generated as a commentary, distorted and non human (dreamtexture plugin for Blender with prompts like "AI looking alien food" and such. Pictures of faces have been generated with this-person-does-not-exist.com to look like conventionnaly beautiful but generic portraits, again foreshadowing the idea what a person looks like, from an AI, algorithmically driven system.
In some of the game's cutscenes, we have used AI tools to generate several images to help present the story. These images have been edited and refined to enhance the player's visual experience. We are committed to providing rich content for our players and will continue to leverage innovative technologies to improve the overall game experience.
Due to our team having only one artist and one engineer, using AI assistance during the development process is crucial. This technology saves a significant amount of time and resources, helping us maintain momentum in our development efforts. We primarily apply AI technology during the drafting stage to expedite the design process and improve efficiency. Specifically, we only utilize AI assistance for certain game scenes and objects, with final adjustments made manually to complete the final drafts. As for character illustrations within the game, they are entirely designed and finalized by the artist from start to finish.
A texture for one backround asset was created using generative AI. The paintings, posters and other artwork you see in the game are NOT made by AI.
Some art content and voice acting are made by AI.
We used AI to generate concepts and referrons to further utilize them in creating illustrations.
Mad Miner's soundtracks 11 through 25 were generated with artificial intelligence. The first 10 tracks are the work of the artist.
The main menu background, textboxes, and some in-game assets contain AI generated images.
AI generation used for some card illustrations.
AI was used to generate initial assets for the ship's computer voice, nebula backgrounds, and some translations, all of which were subsequently refined by the developer.
AI has been used in a limited way* for the following aspects: Text Localization, Speech Localization and Musical Audio. *The base was AI-generated, but the transformative creation built upon it stands as an original work. (Text was controlled by a human, the voice and musical audio were edited and reworked by a human)
The achievement icon in the game store is generated using AI
Generative AI is used to assist in the development of some gameplay art assets.
We use Windows Co-Pilot to answer questions regarding development tools (eg. how to approach technical problems) and Co-Pilot for Visual Studio Code to help improve coding efficiency (eg. code auto-completion).
The newspaper and voice actings are made with AI. Sample voice is my own voice.
