Where do games disclose AI use?
Search developers’ Steam disclosures, compare classified AI use across
games, and follow recorded changes.
This index adds cross-game classifications and statistics to
statements published on individual store pages.
Groups reflect automatic analysis of public disclosures; mature records are excluded. These counts do not measure AI use across all of Steam.
Missing or unclear statements cannot establish whether a game uses AI.
Generative AI has been used for translations into certain languages and as support for various aspects of the implementation.

This game uses generative AI tools to create a small number of environmental textures and 3D props.
All AI-generated assets were manually reviewed, edited and integrated by the developer.
We utilize generative AI tools to create specific pre-rendered assets used in the game's introduction, including atmospheric concept images and two cinematic video sequences. These assets are used exclusively for world-building and narrative setup to enhance the game's opening experience.
Some of the promotional and storefront images were created with AI tools and then refined by hand. All of the in-game assets were designed by a 3D artist.
Some development tasks, including early draft generation and translation assistance, involved generative AI tools. All narrative content, character writing, and dialogue were written and substantially revised by the developer.
The developer uses generative AI tools throughout the entire development process of this game.
Visual Arts: All character illustrations, card designs, backgrounds, and UI elements were generated using AI. The developer has manually reviewed and post-processed these assets to ensure artistic consistency and quality.
Code & Programming: The core game logic and systems were developed with the assistance of large language models (LLMs) to ensure stability and efficiency.
Script & Dialogue: All narrative content, world-building lore, and character dialogues were generated using AI and subsequently edited by the developer for narrative flow.
Commitment to Safety: > We ensure that the AI models and prompts used in development do not generate illegal or infringing content. All AI-generated assets have been thoroughly screened to comply with Steam's distribution policies.
Mithril & Mud uses AI-assisted development tools during the programming process. All game design, systems, and content decisions are made by the developer. No AI-generated content is presented to players during gameplay — all visuals and audio are created through procedural generation algorithms, not generative AI.
Some art assets (cargo icons, music tracks, marketing images) were created with assistance from AI generation tools and refined by the developer. All game code, design, and gameplay systems are human-created. No AI content is generated at runtime during gameplay.
This game was developed with the help of generative artificial intelligence tools used during the development phase to assist in the creation of certain visual, technical, and content elements. All produced elements were selected, modified, and validated by the developer to ensure their consistency, quality, and integration into the final experience.
No content is generated by artificial intelligence in real time during gameplay.
The game features assets and promotional imagery created with the assistance of generative AI, which served as a tool to enhance the production workflow; all such elements were subsequently hand-refined by the developer to ensure artistic consistency. This technology was also used to streamline the development of generic code components. Every aspect of the game’s design, mechanics, and final polish remains the result of human creative direction and manual oversight.
Some temporary in-game music used during development was generated with AI tools as placeholder audio. The intention is to replace these tracks with music created by human artists as the project progresses.
Characters and background scenes of the game were made using Generative AI, and while these are generated as placeholders - it's likely that I'll never have the money or time to commission real art. Prove me wrong.
AI generative models were used to create localization files to support languages that would otherwise be difficult for a solo developer. Placeholder AI-generated assets have been created for the Steam store splash images, with the intent of commissioning an artist if this gains community support. All in-game assets (sprites, music, sound effects, UI elements, and interactive content) were created by humans and are credited in the game credits. CPU opponents use traditional game AI algorithms, not generative AI models.
This is the third iteration of development, that was originally developed in 2019 with HTML + JS, then rebuilt in Unity, and then transferred to LOVE2D written in Lua. It was more-or-less built with a box of scraps in a cave in its first iterations, and modern software since those days have effectively blurred the line where task automation meets unethical AI consumption.
It's up to each of us to determine where that line is for ourselves in a rapidly changing digital age. As both a solo game dev and multimedia artist carrying a full-time job in neither of those fields, I feel that it's important to be educating ourselves on where AI can be a useful tool to allow new opportunities and expand capabilities for independent creators that are otherwise untenable, while keeping the human side of game dev at its core, especially in the indie genre.
Generative AI was used during the development process to assist in creating 2D visual assets, including the character art (the cyber cat) and promotional imagery. These assets were pre-generated and are included as static files within the application.
AI was used to assist with writing/editing text (I’m a non-native English speaker), as well as for calculations and development troubleshooting. No AI-generated art, audio, or in-game writing is included in the game, and the game does not generate AI content during gameplay.
Some promotional visual assets (such as capsule images and store graphics) were created with the assistance of generative AI tools and were then reviewed, edited, and finalized by the development team.
No generative AI is used during gameplay or to create real-time in-game content.
As a solo developer, this project would not have been possible without the use of AI tools during early production to generate placeholder assets. Most if not all of these assets will be replaced with original artwork.
No people have been replaced by AI.
AI was used exclusively to create temporary placeholder images for character skill and perk descriptions. This decision was made due to budget constraints during the early stages of development. As the project progresses and resources become available, all AI-generated assets will be replaced with high-quality, hand-crafted artwork created by professional artists.
Some 2D visuals in Oddslinger were created with the help of generative AI tools (primarily background art and a small number of UI icons, such as card suit symbols) and then curated/edited by the developer
This game utilizes generative AI tools to assist in the creation of certain assets. Specifically, some visual elements (promotional art) and background music tracks were created using AI. All generated content has been manually reviewed to fit the game's style and quality standards.
UmbraNet uses generative artificial intelligence to create some visual content that appears both in-game and on the store page, such as certain images and graphical elements used for atmosphere and presentation.
All AI-generated content is pre-generated and curated by the me (developer) before being included in the game or its marketing materials. No generative AI systems are used during live gameplay, and no player data is collected or processed by AI.
Generative AI is not used for programming, gameplay logic, systems design, or code development. All game mechanics and technical implementation are created manually by the developer.
The Lost City utilizes generative AI to assist in the creation of visual and auditory assets, but all AI-assisted graphics have undergone significant manual post-processing, including digital painting and retouching.
Sound Effects: While many audio files have been manually mixed and edited, some sound effects are used in their original, AI-generated form.
In the development of PolyGuild Adventurers, generative AI was utilized to assist with the following:
In-Game Dialogue: Large Language Models (LLMs) were used to help draft and refine NPC dialogue text and quest descriptions to provide a more immersive and varied experience for players.
Store Page Content: AI tools helped in the drafting and formatting of the Steam store page descriptions and marketing copy.
Please note that all AI-generated text has been human-reviewed and edited for quality and consistency. No AI was used to generate character models, textures, animations, or sound effects.
